Facial Trauma
Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons, during their specialty training, spend a great deal of time learning to diagnose and treat injuries which involve the jaws and facial regions. Beaufort Oral Surgery participates in countywide emergency on-call responsibilities through Beaufort Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department. We view this obligation as a way to bring our specialized care to the community on an emergent and urgent basis.
Facial trauma is usually classified into soft tissue injuries, hard tissue (bone) injuries, injuries to the teeth and surrounding dental structures, or any combination. The surgeons at Beaufort Oral Surgery can manage any injury to the jaws and facial regions. Facial trauma includes the following conditions:
- Facial lacerations
- Intraoral lacerations
- Avulsed (knocked out) teeth
- Fractures of the facial bones:
- Cheek bones
- Nasal bones
- Bones of the eye sockets
- Fractures to the jaws:
- Upper jaw (maxilla)
- Lower jaw (mandible)
