Soft tissue grafting is indicated to help stop the progression of gum recession and/or to improve the esthetics of your gum line (smile). Gum recession results in exposed tooth roots. Often exposed tooth roots are very sensitive, make teeth appear too long, and are prone to cavities.

Aggressive tooth brushing and periodontal disease are two of the most common reasons for gum recession. Your Periodontist can help identify any contributing factors that caused the recession. Once these factors are controlled, a soft tissue grafting procedure will help to repair the defect and help to prevent additional recession and bone loss and to reduce sensitivity from exposed root surfaces.
